Breast Implant Size
Choosing the right size implant is generally the most important decision a woman and her surgeon will make. Your plastic surgeon will evaluate your existing breast tissue to determine if you have enough tissue to accommodate the desired size of breast implant. Smooth and Textured Breast Implant Surfaces
Breast implant shells come in either a smooth or textured surface. And here is the difference. As a natural reaction to any device placed in the body, scar tissue will form around the breast implant surface, creating a capsule. In some women, the capsule can tighten and squeeze the implant. This occurrence is called capsular contracture.
Textured breast implants were designed to reduce the chance of capsular contracture. Some information in the literature on small numbers of patients suggests that surface texturing reduces the chance of severe capsular contracture, but clinical information from studies of a large number of women with Mentor implants shows no difference in the likelihood of developing capsular contracture with textured implants compared to smooth-surfaced implants.

Levulan Photodynamic Therapy
Levulan Photodynamic Therapy is an innovative breakthrough therapy for tougher cases of acne. Finally, there is a treatment for difficult cases of acne that does not require oral medication!

Body lift plastic surgery is available for men and women who have lost large amounts of weight, including post-bariatric or stomach band surgery patients. When an individual loses a large amount of weight over a short period of time, the skin and underlying muscles that were previously stretched remain after the fat is gone. This results in excess, flabby skin that is non-responsive to exercise and dieting. Plastic surgery is effective in removing excess skin to restore a shapely body contour. Body lift surgery typically involves a combination of body sculpting procedures, including tummy tuck, thigh lift, buttock lift, arm lift, and liposuction - depending upon the needs of the patient.

Generally referred to as a “tummy tuck,” abdominoplasty removes excess fat and skin from the abdomen. The procedure also helps to flatten the abdomen by tightening the surrounding muscles. Women with stretched abdominal areas due to previous pregnancies can benefit considerably from abdominoplasty, although they should have completed their childbearing. Older individuals whose skin has lost some of its elasticity and are slightly obese can experience an improvement in their abdominal area.
If you are in generally good physical shape but are concerned about abdominal fat deposits or loose skin that does not respond to diet and exercise, the tummy tuck procedure can potentially reduce or even eliminate a protruding abdomen. Abdominoplasty can produce a permanent scar which can possibly extend to both sides of your hips, although the scar will likely be located below the bikini or bathing suit line.

Over time, the effects of gravity and the loss of the skin’s natural elasticity begin to have an effect on the appearance of a woman’s breasts. A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure to raise and reshape sagging breasts. The procedure can also reduce the size of the areola (the darker skin surrounding the nipple). Breast implants inserted in conjunction with a mastopexy can increase both firmness and size.

The nose is the most prominent feature of the human face. For many people, it is simply a part of their good looks and rarely merits a second thought. For others, though, the nose is a constant embarrassment. Nose reshaping, or rhinoplasty, can change the size or shape of the nose to give it a more pleasing appearance. The nasal bones, cartilage and soft tissues are reshaped to improve the external contour, and large nostrils may be reduced. The procedure is done on an outpatient basis under IV sedation. Incisions are made inside the nostrils so they aren’t visible.

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is designed to remove excess skin and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids. Eyelid lift can correct drooping upper lids and puffy bags below the eyes. Each eyelid lift procedure usually takes about 1 hour and can be performed in the office using local anesthesia.

A forehead lift or “browlift” is used to correct a drooping browline (eyebrow area) reducing the horizontal lines and furrows (worry lines) that often make a person appear angry, sad or tired. Muscles and tissue that droop or crease are removed or corrected to smooth the skin on the forehead, reducing frown lines and raising the eyebrows.

A facelift can considerably reduce these signs of aging by removing excess fat, tightening the underlying muscles, and redraping the skin around the neck and face.
Facelifts can be done alone or in conjunction with another procedure such as a forehead lift, eyelid surgery, or nose reshaping. If your problem areas are limited to the neck, a more conservative procedure known as a “necklift” will be recommended. Meet Houston area plastic surgeon Todd Adam, MD
Dr. Todd W. Adam graduated with his medical degree in 1990 from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. He then completed his General Surgery residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Continuing his education, Dr. Adam went to The University of Texas – Houston where he completed a residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Following his seven years of surgical training in the Texas Medical Center (at both Baylor College of Medicine and University of Texas) and University of Texas – Houston in 1997, Dr. Adam began his private practice in the Clear Lake City and Pasadena areas. He presently lives in Clear Lake City with his wife of over 20 years and two teen-aged children. Dr. Adam enjoys boating, scuba, skiing, watching his son play football and his daughter’s dance competitions.

Meet Our Skin Care Consultant - Susan G. Salsky, R.N.
Susan Salsky offers over 10 years of experience, 4 of which have been capitalized on with Coastal Plastic Surgery. She began nursing in the 90’s as a Labor and Delivery Nurse at Bayshore Hospital. In 1998 she was asked to come work with Dr. Todd Adam as his Clinical and Recovery Room Nurse. Susan has continued to promote her skills as First Assistant to Dr. Adam by assisting him in the O.R. with Cosmetic Surgeries and has recently embraced Skin Care Specialist to her list of titles by becoming the coordinator of his skin care practice. Susan has had extensive training in skin care with certification in Intense Pulse Light/Laser, Obagi Skin Care line as well as training and certification with both BOTOX/Allergan and Restylane. She also participates in continuing education to stay current on the latest advances in skin care. Susan’s honesty, compassion, and all over down to earth personality brings a very warm and soothing ambiance to her skin care practice. Her education, experience, and personal philosophy make her a valuable asset to the Coastal Plastic Surgery family.
